2 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2017 OBITUARY MILLER—Keith A. Miller, 67, of Florence, passed away Oct. 17, 2017, from complications of diabetes. His last months were spent at the Oregon Veterans Home in Lebanon, Ore. He loved the facility and all of the p e o p l e there. Keith was born in Keith Miller Florence, on Jan. 23, 1950, to Eugene “Squinty” and Gale Miller. He attended high school at Laurelwood Adventist Academy and in 1969 was drafted into the Army. He married Judy Yost while on leave from the Army in 1970 in Honolulu, HI., and they had four children. They later divorced. Keith served his duty as a medic in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1971. He was a timber faller and contractor and he also operat- ed heavy equipment, worked on a farm and drove a taxi. He loved visiting with dif- ferent people and never met a stranger. He enjoyed watching and reading westerns, profes- sional wrestling, leisurely drives, good food and making people laugh. He was a kind and generous man with a huge heart of gold and a great sense of humor. He is survived by his moth- er, Gale Miller of Mapleton; his brother Brad (Kathy) Miller of Ketchikan, AK; his children: Mindi (Rod) Durflinger of Creswell; Marli (James) White of Searcy, AR; Marika (Thomas) Boggs of Mapleton; and Joe (Sarah) Miller of Florence; his grand- children: Blaine, Briena, Tynsly and Tanner of Mapleton; Aspen, Delaney, Madison, and Finley of Searcy, AR; his nieces, nephews, many cousins and countless friends. A celebration of his life will be held at the Mapleton High School gymnasium on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The family would love for you to share your memories of Keith for them to treasure for years to come. Volunteers in this arena do a multitude of things for both patients and Peace Harbor staff. The information desk in the surgery waiting room is ideal- ly staffed by a volunteer five days a week, from 7 a.m. to noon. However, there is need for more volunteers. While most volunteers work a four- hour shift, there are several shifts and times available for volunteering. Volunteers keep visitors updated on their loved one’s status as they move through the system, answer questions and give directions. To volunteer, call Sandi Hennig at 541-991-0176.
