Each month, the staff of the Boys & Girls Club select the member that was the role model for all club members. Some of the characteristics that the staff looks for is respect for others, going above and beyond in everything they do, encouraging others, engaging others, club and school atten- dance, completing homework, kindness, and the way they treat others when no one is looking. Each Member of the Month is awarded a new watch. The Boys & Girls Club fills the gap between school and home, providing safe, welcom- ing, positive environments in which kids and teens have fun, participate in life-changing programs and build supportive Purple Pelican holds 16th annual open house The Purple Pelican Antique Mall, 478 Highway 101 in Florence, is having its 16th annual open house on Thanksgiving weekend, from Friday, Nov. 24, to Sunday, Nov. 26. All are invited. The antique mall will have cookies, cakes and goodies, including mulled apple cider. The Purple Pelican is cen- tered in the heart of the Florence Antiques District on Highway 101. The program’s overall goals include developing academic success, good character and citizenship and a healthy lifestyle. Recent Members of the Month have been: September: Bentley, who has been described by staff as a kind young gentleman with a big heart. He always has a smile on his face, always helps clean up, holds the door open for all others at the club and is always willing to do whatever task he is given. October: Taylor, a fun, lov- ing, kind soul, Taylor is also a great sales person; she was the club’s top pie seller for its recent pie-selling fundraiser. November: Austin, who is always willing to help out. Every Friday after snack, he immediately starts washing tables and sweeping floors without being asked. He gets along with everyone and is a great role model for the younger kids in the program. OCHS Christmas Store open daily through Dec. 1 The Oregon Coast Humane Society’s (OCHS) Christmas Store is re-stocked daily and even hourly with Christmas decorations, gifts, bells and lights. Shoppers will also find “The Paper Room” filled with gift wrap, Christmas cards and more, or “The Kitchen,” a room filled with holiday dish- es, glassware and serving pieces. Christmas trees are brought in as space permits and usually are purchased quickly so visit often to find a special tree. There is a wide selection of collector dolls as well as soft, huggable dolls. The store also has tree orna- ments, baskets and tins, and lights for trees and homes. More volunteers are needed. Remove any pieces of shell. Chop oysters. Cook celery and onion in oil until tender. Combined cooked vegetables, bread cubes, parsley, seasonings, and oysters. Mix thoroughly. If stuffi ng seems dry, moisten with oyster liquor. Yields enough to stuff 10-15 lb Turkey.
