Holiday wreaths to benefit Memory Respite Center The Memory Loss Respite Center of Florence has a two- fold mission: to provide socialization and activities for the person with memory loss while providing respite, infor- mation and peace of mind to the family caregiver. The center is located at the Senior Center at 1570 Kingwood St. Laurel Bay Gardens is gen- erously donating the profits of its Christmas wreath sales to the memory center. Order by Nov. 19 and your wreath will be ready for pick- up beginning Dec. 3. Wreath varieties include pine, noble fir and cones and come in 14-inch or 18-inch sizes. United Methodist opens ‘Country Store’ Nov. 4 Women of the Florence United Methodist Church, at 333 Kingwood St., are holding their annual pre-holiday Country Store on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The store will offer a variety of items for those who are preparing for the holiday sea- son. Shoppers will find baked goods, jam and candy, gift bags and baskets, ornaments and handcrafted items. Rada cutlery can also be purchased. Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., a luncheon of homemade soup, bread, pie and beverage will be served. Proceeds from this event by the United Methodist Women benefit local mission projects for women, children and youth. Light of Unity Festival comes to Florence Nov. 12 The Bahá’ís of Florence invite the Florence community to “The Light of Unity Festival” on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Class Act Theatre on Rhododendron and Kingwood streets. This celebration marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Bahá’u’lláh, the Founder of the Bahá’í Faith. The Light of Unity Festival is not an event, but a series of activities generated at the grassroots level all around the country and the world, which reinforce Bahá’u’lláh’s vision of the oneness of humanity and empower participants to contribute. Like Light of Unity Festivals around the globe, Florence activities will include poetry, storytelling and music, and will feature showing the recently released film, “Light to the World.” This film was commis- sioned by the Universal House of Justice for the bicentenary commemorations and tells the story of Baha’u’llah’s life and teachings. It has vignettes from Baha’i-inspired commu- nity-building activities throughout the world. A reception will follow the showing.
