the park will be the addition of a soc-
cer field, with a playing field that
will be level, a benefit that had
Siuslaw youth Soccer Association’s
founder Amy Tregoning excited.
“The adults play against the high
school team, and as we’re running, I
never realized how uneven the field
is,” she said. “This is amazing.”
Henry was particularly fond of the
soccer field, saying, “I am especially
encouraged by our recently formed
soccer program which, in just two
short years, has grown to having 200
kids sign up for this program.”
In addition, the current baseball
diamonds will be repositioned, one
next to the other, and will be adja-
cent to the concession stand.
A new sidewalk will also be con-
structed, running from Oak Street to
inside the park.

“Anything we purchase with hard
cash will be coming out of the
grant,” he said. “But we’ll be having
volunteers, along with city employ-
ees, assume the labor costs. It takes a
community to do this. Without com-
munity support, we wouldn’t do this
today.”
Volunteers will be needed to help
with building the concession facili-
ties, as well as relocating the softball
fields.
Miller plans on beginning con-
struction in February, and hopes that
it will not interfere with current
sports programs that use the park.
“It’s going to be a little bit of a
juggling act so people have places to
play,” he said.
Ultimately, Miller hopes that the
improvements will make the park
even more vital to the community by
providing additional opportunities
for sporting events and community
gatherings, like KCST Coast Radio’s
annual Drive-in Movie Night.
“Miller Park is a great facility, but
it just needs to be taken to the next
level,” Miller said. “This project will
do that.”
