PHOTO BY BARBARA WILCOX SPIRITUALI-TEA HONORS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS This Monday, Oct 23, at 6:30 p.m., all are invited to join a group of people who enjoy finding the common grounds in diverse spiritual thoughts and paths at 875 Seventh St. This week, the Florence Spirituali-Tea group will honor Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and focus on the effects of violence and the remedies before us. According to Bahá’í princi- pals, “The inestimable cost of lost productivity by damaged individuals unable to function fully, if at all, of lost psychic identities and even loss of lives must be considered. Think of the millions of women who live with violence and the fear of violence. They lose their sense of identity which has been eroded to the point where they accept the contaminated version of reality dictated by OPENING SOON their abusers” (“Creating Violence-Free Families,” Bahá’í International Community, May 1994). “Turning Point For All Nations” says, “Women will not be safe until a new social conscience takes hold, one which will make the mere expression of condescending attitudes towards women, let alone any form of physical vio- lence, a cause for deep shame” (Bahá’í International Community, October 1995). The Spirituali-Tea gathering will end at 8 p.m. with prayers for the requests left in the Prayer Pole in the garden of the Florence Playhouse and those shared by the group.
