Saturday’s headliners are two international touring greats, the legendary Al Stewart (“Year of the Cat”) and John Craigie (“the PNW’s favorite troubadour/spiritual son of Woody Guthrie.”) COURTESY PHOTO Firefighters from Washington State passed through Florence Wednesday afternoon as part of a 24-day bicycle ride raising funds for the Gary Sinise Foundation’s RISE (Restoring Independence, Restoring Empowerment) program, which raises funds to build homes for severely wounded veterans. Members of Firefighters Ride 4 RISE left Seattle on Oct. 6 en route to Los Angeles for an Oct. 29 arrival as a fundraising effort for the Sinise Foundation. Pianist Adam Andrews to play in ‘House Concert’ series Award-winning pianist and composer Adam Andrews will be appearing in concert for Kathy Parsons’ House Concert Series on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. Andrews is the winner of this year’s Whisperings Solo Piano Radio Album of the Year award for his third album, “Prayers in the Dark,” which was also awarded Christian Album of the Year from SoloPiano.com, along with M a i n l y P i a n o . c o m ’s 2 0 1 6 Favorite Albums list. Hailing from Colorado Springs, Colorado, Andrews began learning to play classical music at the age of seven, and went on to gain a background in folk-pop Christian music. He works to create heartfelt music about personal experi- ences that will resonate with others. Andrews’ first solo album, “Road To Ambo,” was released in 2014 and chronicled his family’s journey in adopting their son from Ambo, Ethiopia. His second album, “A Thousand Springs,” was released in 2015 and captured the experience of a 24-hour retreat into the wilderness for reflection and renewal. Of his album “Prayers in the Dark,” Andrews said it “shares my personal journey to find gratefulness and peace during a difficult season of life.” OCHS Christmas Store seeks volunteers The Oregon Coast Humane Society’s Christmas Store, located this year at 2775 Highway 101 (between the Verizon Store and Domino’s Pizza) is in need of volunteers to help with setting up dis- plays for holiday home and yard décor, as well as gift giv- ing items for all age groups. Anyone interested in help- ing stock the store or assisting shoppers after the store opens can call the Christmas Store Manager Danielle Dickson at 541-999-5702, or come by the Christmas Store between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The Christmas Store opens to the public Wednesday, Nov. 1. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. The store will be closed Thanksgiving Day but, for the first time, will re-open the next day and continue through Dec. 1.
