Page 2 Center Stage Florence Events Center www.EventCenter.org 541-997-1994 ART CALENDAR Gallery One Exhibit: Symbols of America OCTOBER 5 Popovich Comedy Pet Show 7 p.m. During the month of October, the Galleries at the Florence Events Center, in partnership with the Oregon Coast Military Museum, is featuring artwork from local artists represent- ing the theme “Symbols of America.” Artwork by the late WWII veteran George Hoerner will be featured, through the gener- osity of his family. Artwork on display in- cludes Hoerner’s sketches from North Africa and Italy during the war, where he was de- “Buff alos in Snow storm” by George Hoerner ployed as a camoufl age specialist. Aft er the war, George pursued a career as a journal staff artist in the Portland area. His pen and ink drawings of Portland, Oswego, and surrounding areas and landmarks during the 1950’s off er an interesting look at history. From the late seventies through the nineties, Hoerner did amazing watercolors, including several paintings depicting herds of buff alos. Also at the Exhibit, paintings and photogra- phy representing symbols of America can be viewed through the creativity of local artists. Th e public is invited to visit the Galleries “Kyle” by Colleen Goodwin-Chronister at FEC anytime during the month of Octo- ber to view all of the artwork, but especially encouraged to come to the Artist’s Reception on Sunday, October 8, from 3 – 5 p.m. Th is event is sponsored by the Friends of FEC, and the Oregon Coast Military Museum, who urge active military members, veterans, and our local community to attend this event. Th ere will be music, wine and appetizers, and a raffl e opportunity to win a beautiful pastel painting by Backstreet Artist Susan Th omas, depicting an American fl ag and eagle. All proceeds from the raffl e will go to the museum. Hanging art, as well as 3-D art for the locked display case are welcome. Up to three entries will be accepted per artist, with “Puppy and Flag” by Ron Hildenbrand “ Wallfl owers and Wine” returns to the FEC on November 25th at 6:30 p.m. Artist John Leasure will lead the class in painting the original composition, “To Rise Above.” A wine beverage or non-alcoholic beverage is provided, along with complimentary appe- tizers. Call in advance for tickets at 541-997- 1994, as seating is limited to 20 participants. $10.00 charged for the fi rst entry and $5.00 for each additional entry. Th is exhibit will be judged by an award winning artist, with Best in Show and Peo- ple’s Choice award winners receiving a one month featured show at Backstreet Gallery. Ribbons will also be awarded for fi rst, sec- ond, third place and honorable mention. Entry forms are due by October 20th. Artwork will be hung on October 31st.
