about housing, services

Area
Community Coalition wel-
comes representatives from
the Housing and Community
Services Agency of Lane
County (HACSA) and Siuslaw
Outreach Services (SOS) to
speak at its monthly meeting
on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 9
to 10:30 a.m., in the Bromley
Room of the Siuslaw Public
Library, 1460 Ninth St.
HACSA Executive Director
Jacob Fox, Public Relations
Manager Ela Kubok and
Landlord Liaison Travis Baker
will describe an overview of
the agency’s program and
services, including informa-
tion about how landlords can
partner with HACSA to better
serve Section 8 tenants while
protecting their investments.
SOS representative Dianna
Huenergardt will talk about
the LIHEAP program, which
provides assistance to persons
in need of subsidies for their
electric bills. She will detail
the funding, qualifications to

Lutheran Church and four preschool
students show the 4-Star Certificate

achieved. Oregon’s Quality Rating and
Improvement System (QRIS) gave this
4-Star quality rating to ABC, the first
preschool in Florence to reach this
achievement. In recent months, ABC
Preschool has chosen to participate in
the QRIS, a program designed to raise
the quality and consistency of child-
care and early learning programs
across the state. Experts in the field of
early childhood care and education
evaluated ABC’s materials using
research-based standards that address
children’s learning and development,
health and safety, personnel qualifica-
tions, family partnerships, and admin-
istration and business practices.
“Thanks for continuing to support us
as we focus on growth and improve-
ment of our program,” said Haslett-
Davidson. “Our #1 priority, as always,
is to ensure we are bringing our best

that enables FACC to provide
services to the community,
including monthly meetings,
scholarship, a volunteer recog-
nition event and an aging in
place conference.

City Club to feature teen
substance abuse prevention
Emily Buff Bear, Elisabeth
Maxwell and Char Reavis,
who work with Lane County
Prevention Section of Public
Health, will speak at City Club
of Florence on Friday, Oct. 6,
at Ocean Dunes Golf Links
Clubhouse on Munsel Lake
Road.
A lunch menu is available
from 11:30 a.m. to noon. The
program will be from noon to
1 p.m. and is open to the pub-
lic.
The three will focus on what
Lane County does for under-
age drinking and tobacco pre-
vention, and the work they are
doing in the Siuslaw area.

Oregeon Heritage Commission offers arts grants
The
Oregon
Heritage
Commission is offering grants
for qualified projects for the
conservation, development and
interpretation of Oregon's cul-
tural heritage.
Awards typically range
between $5,000 and $20,000.
Projects can include any-
thing related to Oregon her-
itage, and priority will be given
to projects that preserve, devel-
op or interpret threatened her-
itage resources or heritage
resources of statewide signifi-
cance.
The grant application dead-
line is Oct. 2, 2017.
Projects may include theatri-
cal performances, collections
garage sale signs
