2 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2017 OBITUARIES BRANDLER —Having travelled this world for 91 years, Reva Brandler ventured on to the next on Sept. 3, 2017, with her precious dog, Lady, at her side. Reva was born on May 8, 1926, and Reva Brandler was married for 72 years to her beloved, Mort Brandler, who preceded her in 2014. Reva was a jet-setter, a phi- lanthropist, a dog-lover and a friend. She raised millions of dollars for several large hospi- tals in Southern California, arranged fundraisers at the Hollywood Bowl, and hosted celebrities in their Malibu home. Her stories were endless. Her last volunteer energies were at Quail Ridge Fruit and Vegetable Stand on the Bayfront, and at KXCR radio here in Florence. A celebration of life will be hosted by her friends in the near future. HOLM—Darryle Jerome Holm, 73, formerly of Florence, passed away Sept. 10, 2017. Darryle was born Nov. 10, 1944, in Willmar, Minn., to Reuben William Holm and Grace Viola Holm (nee O’Hair). When Darryle was six, his family moved to Portland, Ore., where he gradu- ated from Parkrose High School. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965 dur- ing the Vietnam War, he was trained as a helicopter crew chief but served as a baker at Fort Mead, Darryle Holm MD., from 1965-1967. He was married to Corrine Miller in 1966 and divorced in 1986. He is survived by their three children: Eric Holm of Aloha, Ore., Holly Petersen of Anchorage, Alaska, and Kendra Castle of Gresham, Ore.; three brothers: Dan Holm of Welches, Ore., Dale Holm of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Larry Holm of Eagle Creek, Ore.; one sister, Margo Bedell of Lopez Island, Wash.; seven grandchil- dren and four great-grandchil- dren. His older brother, Don Holm, preceded him. Darryle worked in construc- tion most of his life. He liked to say “I’ve built everything from an outhouse to a five-story steel building.” At times he was a union carpenter, at times a part- ner with his brothers in con- struction companies. He was a great problem solver. He loved hunting, fish- ing and his family. Darryle is survived by his wife, Annette Andre Holm, whom he married in 1999. They lived in Florence until they moved three years ago to Hillside Retirement Community in McMinnville, Ore. We will greatly miss his quiet love and infectious smile. A celebration of life is planned for Sept. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m., in the Wellness Center at Hillside Retirement Community in McMinnville. To leave online condolences, visit www.macyandson.com. Florence woman arrested in La Pine for assault with box cutter B Y N ED H ICKSON Siuslaw News La PINE, Ore. — A cell phone argument is believed to be the reason Florence resident Lisa Ruth Dixon, 40, allegedly used a box knife to cut the arm of a 36-year-old friend she was visiting in La Pine on Thursday. According to Deschutes County Sheriff’s Sgt. William Bailey, deputies were dis- patched to the 5200 block of Dorrance Meadow Road at around 9:35 a.m., following reports of a stabbing. Initial information was that the suspect, later identified as Dixon, had left in a car before deputies arrived. By following a pair of citi- zen tips, Dixon was found and arrested in the La Pine area Thursday afternoon. La Pine Fire medics treated COURTESY DESCHUTES COUNTY JAIL Lisa Ruth Dixon the man at the scene for an approximately three-inch cut to his right forearm. Accoding to Bailey, deputies were assisted by Oregon State Police, who helped in the search for Dixon, who was located around 4:20 p.m., when a citizen familiar with the incident spotted her driving on Sixth Street, southwest of La Pine. The citizen then con- tacted dispatchers, who who sent deputies, OSP troopers and a K-9 team headed to the scene. Dixon had left her car in the area of Sixth Street and Riverland Road, according to Bailey. A short time later, another citizen reported seeing Dixon on Mitchell Road. Deputies found her at the intersection of Sixth Street and Mitchell Road, and arrested her without incident, said Bailey. Dixon was taken to the county jail in Bend, where she was being held as of Friday morning on $70,000 bail, along with charges of second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing and a mis- demeanor charge of driving with a suspended license. Drugs are believed to be a factor in the crime, Bailey said. Wildfire smoke returns, prompts air quality warnings from LRAPA Drainage flows from the east have brought the wildfire smoke back into Lane County overnight. Air quality monitors in Eugene are seeing spikes into the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” levels Friday morning. The Lane Regional Air Protection Agency is issuing an air quality advisory that began Friday and continues through Sunday at 6 p.m. “Residents or visitors to the Eugene area who are sensitive to smoke are advised to use caution when participating in outdoor activities or to wait out the smoke for a couple days,” said Jo Niehaus, spokesperson for the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency. “We are expecting more smoke impacts until Sunday when rain is pre- dicted.” Fine particles from smoke called PM 2.5 are easily inhaled and enter the blood- stream and lungs. It can aggra- vate existing respiratory and cardiovascular conditions and is especially harmful to chil- dren and seniors. LRAPA’s monitors are updated hourly and can be fol- lowed at www.lrapa.org/216/ Todays-Current-Air-Quality. D EADLINE FOR P RESS R ELEASES I S E VERY M ONDAY AND T HURSDAY BY N OON .
