2 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2017 OBITUARIES ELY—Janet Dawn Ballew Ely70, went to meet the Lord on July 31, 2017, at her home in Florence. She was born April 28, 1947, to Noble and Mary in Salem, Ore., and was the second of three chil- dren. Janet grad- uated from Leigh High School in San Jose, Calif., and went to West V a l l e y Janet Ely College in Saratoga. Over the next 30 years, she would go on to own and run several small business- es including a salon and a Baskin Robbin’s. While in her early 20s, two of her greatest passions were singing and playing the piano in her parent’s church. It was there, in 1964, where she met her future husband, Glenn Ely, when they led the church youth together in the worship. On Jan. 27, 1968, Glenn L. Ely and Janet Dawn Ballew married, and before her passing were only months away from their 50th wedding anniversary. Glenn and Janet lived in San Jose, Calif., for more than 40 years and raised two children. During this time, her love and compassion for others became evident — she was a mom to many in the community. Janet’s love for the church continued, and in 1983 she and Glenn were instrumental in planting Family Community Church. At the same time, her love for the arts grew as she became an award-winning porcelain painter and gifted quilter. In 2005, they relocated to Florence, to her beloved north- west, where she loved tending to her garden and being a part of the local quilting club. Janet was a wife, mother and artist. She is survived by her loving husband Glenn; her daughter, Robin, and spouse Tim; grabd- children Morgan and Aleria; her son, Chris; and her two brothers, Ken and Ron. Janet’s kind heart, wise words and warm hospitality will be sorely missed. Her memorial will be held Friday, Sept. 15, at Crossroad Church, 1380 10th St., in Florence, at 2 p.m. JAMES—Gini May James, 81, of Florence, passed away peacefully Sept. 5, 2017. Gini was born Feb. 16, 1936, in Redding, Calif., to Bill and Gay Clawson, beginning a life that positively touched all those she met. She attended Crescent High School and graduated in 1953 at age 16, which was a strong indication of the intelligence she had guiding her life. In 1952, she met the Love of her life, Jim Kenneth, and they married in Gini James 1954. She graduated from beauty school in San Francisco in 1956 and was a hair dresser for 63 years until retiring when she was 80 years old. In 1975, Jim and Gini moved to Florence and bought and operated Waterland Marina (Now the Port of Siuslaw). After selling the marina, they opened Mane Sail Trimmers, which was in business for 38 years. Gini was very involved in the community and started sev- eral organizations here in Florence. She was a member of the Soroptimist Club since the early 1980s, and started the Christmas Basket Program, the toy drive and Coast for Kids. She also founded the Focus 4 Hotline, which is now run by Siuslaw Outreach Services. She was also Florence First Citizen in 1997. Gini was preceded in death by her husband Jim of 45 years; her daughter Trina Gail James; and her sister, Donna Allian Gillispie — all within the same year. Gini is survived by her three sons: Terry Kenneth James and his wife Shari, Gary Scott Western Lane Ambulance District and Siuslaw Valley Fire & Rescue Ambulance and fire call runs Sept. 3-9 Date Time Area 09/03/2017 09/03/2017 09/03/2017 09/03/2017 09/03/2017 09/03/2017 09/03/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/04/2017 09/05/2017 09/05/2017 09/05/2017 09/05/2017 09/05/2017 09/05/2017 09/06/2017 09/06/2017 04:38:00 07:13:00 10:19:00 15:05:00 16:15:00 19:06:00 23:28:00 02:10:00 02:27:00 07:35:00 09:32:00 09:19:00 10:17:00 10:37:00 10:45:00 12:06:00 11:26:00 11:37:00 15:00:00 17:03:00 17:19:00 19:00:00 19:55:00 20:29:00 20:50:00 21:12:00 06:13:00 07:22:00 07:24:00 13:08:00 14:00:00 14:13:00 03:40:00 06:15:00 Hwy 126 Hemlock St E Mapleton Rd Hwy 36 McCrae Rd SVFR Rhododendron Dr Bay St FPD Leeward Dr Grand Ave Juniper St 42nd St 1.25 SE of Florence 42nd St Spruce St 9th St Ada Station Rd Saltaire St Maple St. SVFR Airport Way LCSO 8th St 9th St Kingwood St Willow Loop 9th St Kingwood St N.
