Website and E-Edition: www.TheSiuslawNews.com L ETTERS LETTERS T HANKS FOR BIKE PATHS Holly (my long haired red dachs- hund) and I would like to publicly thank all who were instrumental in accomplishing our new bike lanes along Rhododendron Drive and Kingwood Street. Wow! What a difference they have made in our rides down to the port! Previously, Holly (who rides in a basket on the front of my three wheel bike) and I would literally have to ride in the middle of the street because the bike lanes were so dangerous and full of potholes. Now, we feel a lot safer being in the proper lane. Also, a special thank you to City Councilor Joshua Greene for reassur- ing me, over a year ago at one of the Florence ReVision meetings, that the bike lanes were definitely a part of the revision plan in Florence. We look forward to 2018 when Highway 101 will be repaved as well. Again, Holly and I thank everyone involved and want all of you to know that your hard work has not gone unnoticed. We are having a lot of fun enjoying our safe rides once again around our beautiful city! —Karen & Holly Buckmaster Florence N EVER SEEN THINGS WORSE THAN NOW I am 77 years old and have experi- enced much more than most people of my age or a bit younger. I experienced the ’40’s into the new age, but have never experienced or been so con- cerned with what is happening now with our government. I lived through the Golden Age, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, 9/11 and more recently the ongoing unwar- ranted conflicts in the Mid-East. I’ve experienced JFK, MLK and RFK being assinated. We also had White Water and the Clinton scandal But through all of this as a nation we held together, even if there was ongoing turmoil in Congress and the Senate between the “Right” and “Left.” Yes! I did vote for what I felt was the lesser of two evils because I didn’t see any other choice. Still, I had no idea that the one who was elected would turn out to be so inept. We now have a president who thinks he is running a family business without any comprehension of gov- ernment or the needs of our country. I feel he is child-like in that he tweets daily about “Fake News,” much of which he has created and the media has reported on. Last week, his cabinet was put in disarray once again. Meanwhile, it appears that his own party is slowly turning against him. I am confused on how we got to this point and can’t help but wonder how long before we end the confusion by getting rid of President Trump.
