ESSENTIAL SERVICES IN LANE COUNTY Lane County Circuit Court, which is housed in the county’s courthouse in Eugene and operat- ed by the Oregon Judicial Department, hears cases no mat- ter the subject, seriousness or severity of the alleged crime or the amount of money involved in the case. Lane County Sheriff’s Office correctional services include a jail that houses 256 local offend- ers, a 39-bed Community Corrections Center (work- release) and out-of-custody pro- grams such as Community Service and Sheriff’s Work Crew. The department provides 20- hour patrols per day of urban, suburban and rural areas, includ- ing timberlands, waterways and coastal dune areas. Lane County Parks includes more than 70 recreational sites within 4,600 acres of land. There is lake access at 11 sites, river access at 38 sites and beach access at three locations. The county maintains five developed swim areas, 24 boat ramps, 400 moorage slips at three locations, 15 reservable picnic sites at five locations and 216 campsites at four locations. Note that a fee is charged at many noncity parks, picnic and day-use areas; a parking fee, for example, is required year-round at all Lane County parks. Park passes can be purchased at the main office, 3050 N. Delta Highway, in Eugene, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Call 541-682-2000 for more information. Local vendors also sell passes. Disabled veteran passes are available at a discount. Lane County Parks is develop- ing a comprehensive park and open space system. Lane Transit District oper- ates 25 Park and Ride locations throughout the county along major bus routes, and many loca- tions are served by express or direct bus service to limit travel time. Rhody Express, a community transit service in Florence, oper- ates Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and pro- vides transportation around town. Fares are $1 for one way or $2 for all day. Books of 20 tickets for $20 are available at the Rhody Express office at 1699 Pine St. in Florence.
