ANNOUNCES LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP WINNER Jacquie Beveridge, Merilee Mulvey, Hanna Anderson and Erica Westphal at the Evening of Excellence held at Siuslaw High School. this scholarship by turning her educational life around, and overcoming a difficult situa- tion. After a year in an online school, she returned to public school for ninth grade, enrolled in a speech and debate class and fell in love with it. Discovering a “well-hidden love and passion for speaking” she excelled. With her confi- dence boosted, she competed in speech and debate tourna- ments and qualified for state every year. Anderson was chosen as COURTESY PHOTO Queen Rhododendra in 2016. In conjunction with her serv- ice in the “court,” she started her own community service project, called “Christmas in April.” This effort allowed her to work as a homeless liaison for the school district to help col- lect and distribute needed sup- plies to local children in need. DAR looks forward to Hanna’s bright future as she makes a difference in the world. The nine-year-old Oregon Dunes Chapter members work hard to raise funds to sponsor this scholarship. Sales of their cookbook, “DAR: Delicious Ancestral Recipes,” will help fund next year’s scholarship. The cookbook is available for purchase at Siuslaw Pioneer Museum or Oregon Coast For more information, con- tact Jacquie Beveridge at 541- 997-8311 The Top Choice in Florence Real Estate.
