Soroptimists award $33,000 in scholarships Soroptimist International Club of Florence awarded $33,000 in scholarships and awards to eight young women from Siuslaw High School dur- ing the school’s Scholarship Night Presentation on May 25. This is the most that the Florence Club has ever award- ed. From the fundraisers, espe- cially Bras for a Cause, along with other fundraisers, the club was able to present awards to a record number of students. The district would like to hear from parents and fami- lies, students, teachers, com- munity members and busi- nesses. The district needs mem- bers of the community to make known their support of current “Twilight” school programs. LCC to host instructors workshop Lane Community College Florence Center’s Continuing Education program will hold an informational workshop for community members interested in teaching non- credit courses. Community members are invited to attend one of two workshops planned for 10 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Monday, June 12, on campus at 3149 Oak St. Prior teaching experience is not required, but extensive knowledge, experience and passion in the content area is necessary.
