Over the course of the last three sports seasons, 17 new school records and 15 indi- vidual district and state champions were named & SHEET METAL, INC. “Your Local Independent Trane Dealer” Florence’s Oldest & Largest Heating Contractor between the Vikings and Sailors. Among those athletes, 10 finalists were announced ear- lier in the week: Hunter Simington from Mapleton, along with Jared Brandt, Trent Reavis, Brogan Cornish, Jack Pickell, Richard Huff, Celie Mans, Destinie Tatum, Claire Waggoner and Carissa Oliver, all from Siuslaw. “It’s never easy choosing just two individuals from a group made up of so many outstanding student athletes,” said former KCST news director and awards host Bob Sneddon. “Deciding on this year’s top athletes was no exception. Each finalist played a major role in their teams’ successes. At the same time, they accom- plished their own achieve- ments in atheltics in addition to academics.” At the close of Wednesday night’s awards ceremony, which included entertain- ment by Siuslaw’s cheerlead- ing squad and an array of specialty desserts prepared by SHS culinary students and served by PRIDE mem- bers, Siuslaw senior Celie Mans and junior Trent Reavis were announced as the 2017 Athletes of the Year.
