SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, MAY 31, 2017 Evangelical church to hold sale and car wash The Florence Evangelical Church is holding a fundrais- ing rummage sale on Saturday, June 3, at 1318 Rhododendron Dr. The church is located on the corner of Laurel and Rhody, one block off of Highway 101, and is seeking donations of gently used items such as toys, books, tools, household items and clothing to sell at the fundraiser. The church will also be conducting a car wash at the Sears’s parking lot from 10 to 2 p.m. on the same day, if weather permits. Proceeds from this annual sale help to pay tuition for young people to attend church camp each summer. If community members have items to donate to the sale contact Rob at 541-997- 5159 to arrange for pickup of the donation. Celebration of Life A Celebration of Life for Charlie Kimball will be held on June 3 at 2 p.m. It will be at the Meeting Hall on Woahink Lake in Honeyman State Park. Char- lie passed away December 24th and this is a time for family and friends to gather to remember him. Donations may be made in his name to the Siuslaw Public Li- brary. 3 A June 10 auction and raffle to benefit ill 11year old Siuslaw fifth-grade student Malakai Kirk, son of Mark and Laurie Stone, has dealt with symptoms of an immune-defi- ciency disorder his whole life. Recently he received an unset- tling diagnosis; he has DOCK8 deficiency, hyper IgE syn- drome,which has only been documented on less than 200 occaisons. The “Gifts of the Heart Auction- A Night of Giving” will be held on Saturday, June 10, in the Siuslaw Middle School commons to raise funds to assist with expenses associ- ated with Malakai’s surgery. The auction opens at 5 p.m. and bids will be accepted until 7p.m. Everyone in the community is welcome and encouraged to attend. Admission is free and all of the proceeds will be deposited into “Malakai’s Bone Marrow Transplant” fund at Oregon Pacific Bank. Among other symptoms, through chemotherapy to kill off the dysfunctional cells causing his illness. Then, after the bone marrow transplant surgery has occured, the new bone marrow will take hold and give his immune sys- tem a start. Gabe Wells was awarded $1,000 for his Forestry major. Wells will attend Lane Community College then trans- fer to Oregon State University. Brandy Dalbeck was award- ed $1,000 to attend the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute with the eventual goal of having her own restaurant using farm-to- table sourcing. Michael Larson was award- ed $1,000 for his Food Science and Technology major at Oregon State University.
