The grants are awarded to projects that can make an eco- nomic impact by stimulating private investment and local economic development, and fit within a community’s long range plan for downtown vital- ity. “The Florence Area Chamber of Commerce is working to perpetuate the area’s historic and aesthetic values. That’s why we are part- nering with the community in valuable ways that are visible and tangible,” says Bettina Hannigan, the Chamber’s exec- utive director. “One of those ways is with the Downtown Revitalization Team, a Chamber committee in support of the City of Florence’s ReVision Florence program,” she adds. “This was the catalyst for our success in winning the grant from the Main Street program,” she said. 240 The Rotary Club of Florence recently presented Jim Grano, the coordinator for Siuslaw school field trips, a check for $ 593. This money will be used to pay for transportation for district students to take trips to the STEP fish traps at the Whittaker Creek Recreational Area. The funds will also be used pay for trips to Knowles Creek, the dunes, and to the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve. Grano and the school dis- trict recently lost one of the funding sources for these trips. Whenmade aware of this situation, the Florence Rotary Club donated the money necessary to contin- ue these important science related field trips. HOURS Is your family prepared?
