COM ❘ / SIUSLAWNEWS ❘ @ SIUSLAWNEWS Community News Mother’s Day sale at Mudmusic Studio May 12 Each year, ceramics artist Mike Schwartz hosts a Mother’s Day sale at his Mudmusic Studio. This year, the date for the sale is the weekend of Mother’s Day, Friday May 12 through Sunday May 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You are invited to see Mike’s pit fired ceramics, which over the years have won numerous awards. Pit firing is an ancient form of firing clay that predates the advent of the kiln. As he describes his pieces, “No glazes are used, the col- ors you see are due to the inter- action of fire and smoke work- ing on the salts and metals that I treat my pots with. Each piece is thrown on my potter’s wheel and after firing, is a one of a kind creation never to be redu- plicated. Words aren’t good enough, you have to see these pieces for yourselves,” he says. Mike loves to talk about and show his work to visitors and clients. Mike’s art is on year round display at the River Gallery in Coastal Gem Walkers’ next jaunt set for May 2 Join th Coastal Gem Walkers on Tuesday, May 2, as the group walks the Three Lakes YRE near Florence.
