SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, APRIL 22, 2017 Mayor reads Earth Day Proclamation Pre-register for kindergarten Monday Siuslaw Elementary School is preparing for its Spring Kindergarten pre-registration and Meet and Greet. On Monday, April 24, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., parents and 2017-18 kindergarten students are invited to visit the class- rooms and meet the teachers. Parents will also be able to learn more about the school readiness program, Kids in Transition to School (KITS). Kindergarten pre-registra- tion packets have gone out to preschools in the area. Parents of children not in preschool can pick up packets at the ele- 3 A mentary school at 2221 Oak St. Full registration for kinder- garten and all students will take place Aug. 15 to 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Siuslaw Elementary School. Oregon law requires that students starting school be up- to-date on all age-appropriate immunizations. Siuslaw Friendship Club donates to OCHS The Siuslaw Friendship Club traditionally raises funds year round through a variety of efforts including bake and plant sales, card parties, Candle Lite parties and many other fundraising activities. Once a year the club chooses various local non profit organ- izations to receive shares of those raised funds. On April 13 the Siuslaw Friendship Club made dona- tions to four organizations that included the Oregon Coast Humane Society. OCHS Director of Development Daniel Dickson and Shelter Manager Tanya Garrett accepted a check for $500 on behalf of the OCHS. The West Lane Regional 90by30 team will meet Tuesday, April 25, at 9 a.m. in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw Public Library. The 90by30 project has a goal of reducing child abuse and neglect in Lane County by 90 percent by the year 2030. Regional teams meet to organ- ize efforts in local communi- ties so that every person, neighborhood, group and organization has a way to par- ticipate in activities to end child abuse and neglect.
