These fish get fairly active in the lake and offer a unique fishing experience, especially when the rivers are blown out. Once in the lake they are considered “trout” and do not require a Combined Angling Tag. Anglers are reminded, however, that only one trout per day over 20 inch- es may be retained, and these fish will almost all be in that size range. Trout stocking is com- plete in the other North Coast lakes, but there are still hold over trout avail- able and winter can be a great time to fish for them as these trout will be larger now, and getting hungry. The trout stocking sched- ule for 2017 is available online, and printed ver- sions will be out soon. SIUSLAW RIVER: The combination of seniors Claire Waggoner and Heidi Jones provided a one-two punch during the Lady Vikings’ sweep of Bandon over the weekend at Siuslaw. Waggoner was explosive on offense, going 6-for-7 at the plate and scoring 6 runs in a two-game sweep of the Tigers that ended early in both games due to the 10-run rule. With six of Siuslaw’s nine starters consisting of seniors, including four of those players making up the top of the order — second baseman Jenicah Ecker, catcher Nikki Launius, Waggoner at first base and Jones on the mound — the Vikings tout a plethora of experience that could pay big divi- dends in the Far West League this sea- Seniors Nikki Launius, currently batting .625, slides home for a score.
