Last Tuesday, Siuslaw High School senior Brittany Long signed on the dotted line regarding her plans after grad- uation this June. In the pres- ence of her mother, Rylie Tuttle, and SHS principal Kerri Tatum, long signed a Letter of Intent to play volley- ball for Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC). Long signed the letter in the glow of the high school’s row of trophies, some of which she has contributed to through her own efforts as a multi-sport athlete during her four years as a Lady Viking. “Brittany is a dynamic and versatile player,” said SWOCC volleyball coach Michael Edmond. “She has a powerful arm and will bring great energy to our team this coming season.” ROB GRIFFES PHOTO Siuslaw senior Brittany Long (center) signs a Letter of Intent to play volleyball for Southwestern Oregon Community College as Siuslaw High School principal Kerri Tatum (left) and Long’s mother, Rylie Tuttle (right), share in the occasion. Long, who plans to pursue a career in nursing, said she’s excited to play both against — and with — opponents she’s grown up playing against. “I love competition and am currently doing plyometrics and strength training in prepa- ration for next season,” said Long, who was a top scorer for the Viking volleyball team last season, as well as a key defender. Long’s mother said her daughter already has an important key to success. “Brittany is a survivor,” said Tuttle. “She is stubborn and will work hard to accom- plish her goals. “I’m so proud of her for get- ting to where she is. She’ll be the first in our family to com- pete in sports at the college level.” • APRIL 13 MHS TRACK & FIELD AT M ONROE 4 P . M .
