FISHING REPORT FOR THE LOCAL REGION T www.dfw.state.or.us/RR he Vikings took a total of four wrestlers to this year’s Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) 4A state wrestling meet at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, where junior Richard Huff (113 lbs.), senior Kainan Lane (285 lbs.), senior Nick Steinman (170 lbs) and sophomore Riley Jennings (152 lbs.) were on the mats for a chance at state titles. The two-day competition began Friday, with Steinman and Jennings unfortunately eliminated by day’s end. However, Lane and Huff continued into Saturday after two wins in the qualifying rounds. Huff pinned both of his opponents, first against Colton West from Marshfield in 1 minute, 40 seconds. He then went on to battle Jarrett Graff in the quarterfi- nals in 5:01. Lane also pinned his way into Saturday’s semifinals, defeating Miguel Galindo of Ontario (2:32) and Rogelio NORTH COAST LAKES: Nehalem Hatchery released 200 surplus winter steelhead into Vernonia pond, 57 into Lost Lake and 60 into Lake Lytle. These fish get fairly active in the lake and offer a unique fishing experience, especially when the rivers are blown out. Once in the lake they are considered “trout” and do not require a Combined Angling Tag. Anglers are reminded, however, that only one trout per day over 20 inch- es may be retained, and these fish will almost all be in that size range. The Viks were the first to score, on a rebound from junior post Trent Reavis, but it didn’t come for a full two minutes into the game. The Cubs responded quickly, scoring three times in the next 90 seconds — on 3-pointer and a pair of rebounds for a 7-2 lead. The Vikings rallied on a freethrow from senior point guard Brogan Cornish and 3-point play by junior for- ward Kyle King to close the gap to within 1 point, but the Cubs swept the final two minutes with another long 3- pointer and foul shooting for a 14-6 lead.
