Rozaire-Brown 234 247 605 605 Hoop shooters advance to state this weekend The local Elks Hoop Shoot for boys and girls ages 8 to 13 was held Saturday, Jan. 21, at Siuslaw Elementary School. On hand were Elks members, parents and friends of young basktball hoop shooters. Mylee Blake won the 8- to 9- CLAY KRAMER WOMEN MAXINE JONES HIGH SERIES HDCP MEN CLAY KRAMER WOMEN ELISSA HURLEY year-old girls division; Jordan Pitcher won the 8- to 9-year- old boys bracket. Dillon Jensen won the 10- to 11-year old boys contest, with Makayla Freeman winning the girls side. Top shooter of the event was Brody Terry, who won the 12- to 13-year-old boys division after sinking 19 of 25 freethrows. Four of the event’s top shooters then advanced to the district championships in Seaside, Ore., where Freeman qualified for the state finals to be held this Saturday, Feb. 11, in Milwaukie, Ore. Terry sank 22 of 25 attempts at district and was top shooter for the event. He will also move on to state with Freeman this weekend. the semifinals but losing her final three bouts to fall short of state qualification. At this weekend’s 12-team district meet, the Viks will have nine wrestlers on the mats, one of the smallest rosters competing, aside from Brookings-Harbor’s seven-member team. Other schools competing will include Marshfield (23), Mazama (21), Henley (21), Phoenix (18), Hidden Valley (15), Douglas (13), North Bend (13), North Valley (12), South Umpqua (11) and Klamath Union (10). The top five finishers in each weight bracket will advance to the state championships at Veteran Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Feb. 24 and 25. Let me Showcase your property.
