Florence Chamber holds Siuslaw Awards Banquet Feb. 8 FLORENCE—Sponsored by the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce, the ninth annual Siuslaw Awards will be presented on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is $35 per person. Tables of eight are available for $280. Tickets are available at the Chamber office, 290 Highway 101 in Florence, or by phone, 541-997-3128 . Open to the public, this semi-formal event celebrates the local business com- munity by naming recipients for awards in excellence. The 25 businesses nominated are: Excellence in Community Caring: Banner Bank, City Lights Cinemas and Laurel Bay Gardens Excellence in Curb Appeal: America’s Mattress, Korando Dental Group, Lovejoy’s Restaurant & Tea Room and Old Town Barbershop Excellence in Customer Service: Banner Bank, City of Florence – Planning, Building & Code Enforcement Dept., Funky Monkey, Hoagland Properties — The River House Inn and Old Town Inn, Lofy Construction & Design, Lovejoy’s Restaurant & Tea Room and Polished Boutique & Salon Excellence in Non-Profit Achievement: Boys and Girls Club of Western Lane County, CROW (Children’s Repertory of Oregon Workshops), Friends of the Event Center, Oregon Coast Military Museum, Rotary Club of Florence ‘Florence Fest’ opens to artists, jazz, wine FLORENCE—Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA) invites all artists to participate in the first Florence Fest to be held at the Florence Events Center on March 31 and April 1. This unique event, which will feature two days of jazz, art and wine, will be highlighted by talented jazz musicians and outstanding wine from some of the best wineries in the Willamette Valley. The juried art section of the event will provide maximum exposure for creative artists’ work and significant prize money will be awarded. Selections for the exhibit will be made by Robert Canaga, who is an accom- plished painter, photographer and print- maker. He has been the curator for numerous exhibitions throughout the Northwest; including the Gallery at the Watershed, PeaceHealth Headquarters and the Coos Art Museum. Canaga is a former gallery owner and has also exhibited in over 30 selected shows, most recently at a 3-month show in the State Capitol Building. His work 1 6 • C OAST currently appears in 14 public and pri- vate collections. There is an exquisite sense of style and strength in his own work, and his tastes and preferences are eclectic and run across a broad range of styles. Cash prizes will also be awarded and will be selected by an awards commit- tee of three local artists and gallery owners: SK Lindsey (Kenneth B. Gallery), Marianne Brisbane (Vardanian Gallery) and Steve Dennis (Earthworks Gallery). The First Citizen Award recognizes the individual who has given selflessly to the community based on community involve- ment, leadership, and overall community impact. The Future First Citizen Award recog- nizes a student based on his or her aca- demic success as well as civic involve- ment and contributions to the community. Florence Area Chamber of Commerce will also recognize an individual or busi- ness that has selflessly given of their time and efforts in supporting the chamber and its efforts with the Distinguished Service Award. Also featured during the event is a “State of the Chamber” address by Jenna Bartlett, Board President. There will also be live entertainment provided by Denny Weaver, and a delicious buffet created by Pavilion Catering, which includes gluten- free options.
