SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 25, 2017 Local business owner to join Oregon Pacific Board Yachats Lion’s Club announces crab feed On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Yachats Lions Club will fea- ture all the crab you can eat at their annual, “Crab Feed.” For many years, the Yachats Lions have served over 1,500 fresh crab to an average of 500 people per year. The annual event is a tradi- tion for families and groups from Oregon and Washington. There will be two seatings at The Yachats Commons, the first at 12:30 p.m. and the second at 4 p.m. There will also be a 4 p.m. seating at Yachats Lions Hall. The Commons is located on Highway 101 at the inter- section of 101 and fourth Street. Born and raised in Portland, Ore., Wright attended Western Oregon University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in business management with a focus in finance and a minor in entrepreneurship. It was during his time at the university that he met his wife, Stephanie. Soon after gradua- tion, the two of them moved to Salem where Wright started his career as a sales and service manager at Maps Credit Union. From there he transitioned into the technological side of financial services, becoming an expert in the infrastructure and security aspects of highly regu- lated companies. Wright dealt specifically with standards set up by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and Florence Area Chamber of Commerce Siuslaw Awards. Wright is very active in the Florence community. He has been a member of the Florence Chamber Board since 2014 and the Economic Development Committee since its inception in 2015. Wright and his wife recently celebrated their ten year wed- ding anniversary. Box 10 • Florence, OR 97439 (541) 997-3441 Siuslaw News “We’ll explore ways that students can capture meaning- ful stories with what they have – a recorder on their phone, a voice recorder or even a tape deck recorder,” Anderson said. “The majority of the class will focus on the art of the inter- view: the ethics surrounding it, the pitfalls, but most impor- tantly, how to get a good one.” Part of the class will also explore what constitutes per- sonal and family histories and help students look past a pho- tograph to connect memories to them and create a story. “Recording history isn't just about making a record for future generations. It’s about proving to yourself and others that you actually existed in this world, and having the opportu- nity to say, clearly, what you truly believe,” Anderson said. The class is a new addition to the Continuing Education program and students are encouraged to register early. Anderson currently teaches cinema studies classes for the program and has a reputation among students as an interac- tive and engaging instructor.
