Coming into the third quarter, Marshfield opened the half with back-to-back 3-pointers, break- ing Siuslaw’s zone defense and forcing the Viks to pressure the Pirates full court before dropping back into a zone. The Pirates’ speed allowed Marshfield to set the pace and score on a series of fastbreaks and timely 3-pointers to establish a 47-25 lead to start the fourth quarter. But Siuslaw dug deeper, extending its pressure in transi- tion as well as off the glass with post work from Trent Reavis, Jared Brandt and Kyle King. As a result, the Vikings put together a 14-3 run in the final four minutes, cutting their 22- point deficit to just 8 points by the final buzzer — the same deficit the Viks had at the end of 5 B the opening period. And coincidentally, the same number of points the Viks lost by the last time Siuslaw and Marshfield faced off in 2016. Reavis lead scoring for the Viks with 13 points. That same night, North Bend beat South Umpqua (53-39) and Douglas narrowly defeated Brookings-Harbor, 54-51. Today, the Viking boys will host the Bruins in a game rescheduled from last night. Boys tip off at 3 p.m..
