Viking junior wrestler Richard Huff
improved to 15-3 for the season after
sweeping the 120-pound bracket at the

seniors Nick Steinman (170 pounds)
and Kainan Lane (285 pounds) fin-
ished fourth and second, respectively.
At 120 pounds, Huff had two pins

the title round over Kalvin Ruth of
Newport in just 17 seconds by pin.
Huff began the day with a 20-7 deci-

Despite the challenge of bitter
weather conditions, Siuslaw’s bowling
teams were on the lanes Saturday in
Florence and North Bend, with the var-
sity boys away and the girls and varsi-
ty 2 boys at home.
“With the bad weather, the turnout
was light at both tournaments but
everyone still competed very well,”
said Dusty Anderson, manager of
Holiday Bowl in Florence and bowling
teams’ coordinator.
In North Bend, the varsity boys took
second place to the host Bulldogs.
In Florence, both the varisty girls
and JV 2 boys team took first place in

Siuslaw’s basketball teams had their
final pre-season tournament showing
over the weekend, battling bad weather
on the road before battling teams on
the hardwood last Friday and Saturday
at the Skyline/Far West Crossover
Tournament.
Friday night, the Lady Vikings were
narrowly plucked by the Pelicans in a
low-scoring matchup with Klamath
Falls, 39-35. The cold weather was
reflected in Siuslaw’s shooting, which
was 24 percent from the field after
going 12-for-50. Freethrow shooting
was a little better, with the Lady Viks
shooting 50 percent (9-of-18 attempts.)
