ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY - DECEMBER 14, 2016 - 3 STAR WARS ROGUE ONE rounds all living things still exists, but none of the characters are Force- wielding Jedi themselves. The fire of the Jedi seems to have gone out of the universe, and it’s down to a rag-tag group of heroes to pick up the torch and fight back against the Empire’s tyr- anny. The Force will just have to wait. At least, it will have to wait for the good guys. Eagle-eyed viewers of the most recent “Rogue One” trailer, unveiled on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on October 13, could spot a few glimpses of the Empire’s black clad, heavy breathing, number one henchman. That’s right, Darth Vader himself. It seems the bad guys still have the Force – or its Dark Side, at least – on their side after all. Whether that’s good or bad for our heroes, rest assured that Star Wars fans across planet Earth will be waiting anxiously for the latest entry in the Star Wars mythos. Meet the new characters – on both sides of the Force. “Star Wars Rebels” (2014- present) The gap between the events of “Episode III” and the rise of the Rebel Alliance in “Star Wars” are explored in this half-hour animated TV series. A ragtag team of mis- fits – including a skilled pilot, cranky droid, and Jedi-in-hiding – engage in small acts of rebellion against the growing might of the Galactic Empire. “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (2016) The first standalone film set in the Star Wars uni- verse, “Rogue One” tells the dramatic story of a team of unlikely spies and heroes who band together to steal the plans to the Empire’s fearsome planet- destroying battlestation – the Death Star. “Star Wars” (1977) Young farmboy Luke Skywalker meets reclusive Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and becomes embroiled in the galactic conflict between good and evil. Along the way, he meets the Rebellion’s young leader Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) This veteran Rebel spy is Erso’s right-hand man in her mission to break into the Imperial war machine. “The Empire Strikes Back” (1980) Rebel forces scatter across the galaxy as the Empire pursues them with cold malice following the Death Star’s destruction. Luke trains with reclusive Jedi Master Yoda, while Darth Vader uses Leia and Han as bait to turn Luke to the dark side. During a fierce duel, Vader reveals that he is actually Luke’s father, Anakin Skywalker. “Return of the Jedi” (1983) The Rebel fleet gains the chance to destroy the Empire once and for all when the Emperor himself travels to the con- struction site of a second, more powerful Death Star. Han and Leia work together to aid the assault. Meanwhile, in a climactic confrontation, Darth Vader chooses to save his son Luke from the Emperor’s clutches. K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) An Imperial security droid repro- grammed by Andor, this sarcastic robot can blend in perfectly at Imperial outposts, making him ideal for spy infiltrations. Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) Familiar to fans of “Return of the Jedi” as the Rebel Alliance’s leader, Mon Mothma tasks Erso and her band of rebels with their mission. Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) Wanted by the Empire, fugitive Jyn Erso throws her lot behind the Rebel Alliance on a mission of great impor- tance to the galaxy. Princess Leia Organa and smuggler and scoundrel Han Solo, as all work together to destroy the dreaded Death Star. Chirrut Îmwe (Donnie Yen) This sightless but deadly warrior believes deeply in the reality of the Force, though not a Jedi himself. Baze Malbus (Wen Jiang) Îmwe’s best friend, Malbus deals with the Empire’s brutal repression of his home world by fighting back with the biggest guns that he can find. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (2015) Thirty years after the fall of the Empire, a new face to the dark side has aris- en: the First Order led by Force-wielding Kylo Ren. Two nobodies – a back- water scavenger named Rey and a deserting stormtrooper named Finn – join General Leia Organa to take down this new threat and find missing Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. Star Wars: Episode VIII (2017) With a title and story unknown, this upcoming film will show what happens after the final scene of “The Force Awakens”: when Rey finally meets Luke on his secret hideaway. Star Wars: Episode IX (2019) The story of Rey, Finn, and the First Order comes to an end in the conclusion to the Star Wars saga. Colin Trevorrow (“Jurassic World”) will direct the third film of Disney’s sequel trilogy. Death Troopers These elite soldiers, clad in black and heavily armed, are Director Krennic’s personal bodyguards. Darth Vader (James Earl Jones) Once a heroic Jedi knight, Darth Vader now serves the Empire. Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed) A former Imperial pilot, Rook’s strong moral compass has led him to turn away from the Empire’s tyranny and join the Rebellion instead. Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) A reclusive and battle-scarred veter- an of the Clone Wars, Gerrera leads a prolonged insurgency against the Imperial occupation of Jedha. Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) The cruel, ruthless director of the Empire’s Advanced Weapons Research division, Krennic is obsessed with completing the Death Star at all costs Images courtesy of Lucasfilm © CTW Features
