SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2016 During the months of January and February, 2017, the Florence Events Center (FEC) is offering a “Rent-a- Rod” opportunity for local artists. The show celebrates animals and benefits the Oregon Coast Humane Society (OCHS) in Florence. For this third annual exhib- it of “For the Love of Animals,” artists can pur- chase one or more rods for $20 each. Each rod holds up to three pieces of art includ- ing paintings, photography, mixed media and more. The glass case is also available for 3-D items at $20 for up to three items. This is a great opportunity for artists to showcase and sell their art, as well as sup- port the local animal shelter. Domestic animals, wildlife, sea life, birds — all animal art is welcome. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the OCHS. Admission to the reception is free, but guests are encour- aged to bring a bag of pet food for the OCHS. OCHS. Artwork will be viewed by many visitors to Library announces ‘Hang it all’ vote winner November was “Hang It All” month at the Siuslaw Public Library. The non- juried public art display was open to everyone and any- one: professional, amateur and newly inspired artists. Nearly 70 items were entered in this year’s show that ran from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30. During “Hang It All” month, members of the community were invited to vote for their favorite entry. One vote was allowed per day per person for the People’s Choice Award. A second award, The Bob Kutsch Award for Best in Show (named for an original Library Art Committee mem- ber and an art instructor at LCC), was selected by the Siuslaw Public Library’s Art Committee. This year, the People’s Choice Award was present- ed to Marsha Horner for her watercolor “Jo-Jo.” Horner had not painted for 17 years before she revisited her inner artist to design the sea lion project, “Wish You Were Here.” The Bob Kutsch Award for Best in Show, selected by fellow artists, was awarded to budding artist Karen Skulley. She just began painting in September and painted her entry “Chickadees” the morning of “Hang It All” submission day, Nov. 1. Both Horner and Skulley are students of Carol Hillsbery a former “Hang It All” award winner. Both paintings will be on display in the main library through the month of December. At the moment, they are playing two shows in rep in Buffalo, New York, with five actors. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s dalliance with a young ingenue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of “The Scarlet Pimpernel.” Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that oould go wrong does go wrong, abetted by a visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertain- ty about which play they are actually performing, caused by Charlotte’s deaf old stage- manager mother who hates every bone in George’s body. Four men, stage ages 20 to 60 years old, and four women, stage ages 20 to 70 years old, are needed. LRP seeks an ensemble cast, with a strong leading man and woman. There will be parts for sen- ior actors and tech and stage crew inquiries are welcome. “Moon Over Buffalo” rehearsals start Sunday, Jan. 8. First place went to Rudy Gargioni with a picture of a N EW L IFE sports car racing along the highway. Jane Pittenger’s second- place photo was a composite of a kayak going over a cliff.
