Join the other 399 peo- ple who will attend limited- seating Crab Crack at the Florence Events Center on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. Enjoy great food and com- pany while aiding the less for- tunate in this area. All the proceeds from this event will benefit Florence Food Share, a local food pantry that provides resources to those facing hunger in western Lane County. Oregon coast Dungeness crab, along with pasta, coleslaw, garlic bread, sodas, coffee and BJ’s dessert will be served by “crab head” volun- teers. A no-host bar will also be available. COURTESY PHOTO The Florence Police Auxiliary will be helping Santa give toys to local children when he visits the Florence Justice Center, Ninth and Kingwood streets, on Saturday, Dec. 17. Santa will hand out gifts to children between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. Donations of new, unwrapped toys are being collected at the Justice Center until Friday, Dec. 16. Date set for annual ‘Light Up a Life’ fundraiser PeaceHealth Peace Harbor’s Hospice team is hosting its annual Light Up A Life fundraiser ceremony Saturday, Dec. 10, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., at the Florence Events Center in celebration National Hospice and Palliative care month. The ceremony, now in its 21st year, offers meaningful opportunities for members of the community to remember their loved ones. The ceremony also serves as a fundraiser for Peace Harbor Hospice, which serves the 25- mile region surrounding Florence including Westlake, Mapleton, Deadwood and Swisshome. Hundreds of families bene- fit from the nonprofit hospice service every year, which pro- vides care to individuals who have a prognosis of six months or less by focusing on the physical, emotional and spiri- tual needs of the patients and their loved ones. Peace Harbor Hospice offers nurses, therapists, social workers, hospice aides, volun- teers and chaplain services, all under the direction of a hos- pice and palliative care board- certified physician. Family members can partic- ipate in a “reading of the names” ceremony to honor memories of loved ones. Additionally, stars featuring a loved one’s name can be pur- chased and displayed at the event, with 100 percent of the contributions remaining in the Florence area to benefit Peace Harbor Hospice. Donations can be mailed to Peace Harbor Hospice, 400 Ninth St., Florence, or dropped off at 2230 Kingwood St., in Florence.
