Siuslaw’s wrestling team opened its
season Thursday night at home, taking
on North Bend and Reedsport in a duel
meet that the Viks ended up splitting.
In the first match-up, Siuslaw had
little trouble with the Bulldogs,
outscoring them 36-9, due in part to
forfeits in the upper weight classes to
Vikings Jesus Sierra (160 pounds),
Nick Steinman (170 pounds) and
Kainan Lane (285 pounds).

Braves battled point-for-point, match

The Viks started strong, winning
their first two matches, first by forfeit
to Mystic Debary (126 pounds), then

WEEKLY
FISHING REPORT FOR
The Viking boys basketball
team got off to a promising start
Wednesday under new coach
Dylan Perry, with Siuslaw
securing an impressive 65-48
nonleague win at home against
Creswell — a team the Vikings
will likely be playing on a regu-
lar basis once the OSAA shifts
the leagues and classifications
around next year.
The Vikings got into foul
trouble early, with all five of
their starters — Brogan
Cornish, Jared Brandt, Marcos
Reyna-Ayala, Kyle King and
Trent Reavis — each chalking
up a pair of fouls in the first
half. Fortunately, Perry was able
to turn to his bench. In particu-
lar, junior forward Jake
Hickson, who came in to post
11 points in the second quarter
and 15 points overall to lead
Siuslaw in scoring.
In fact, 31 of the team’s 65
points came from the bench,
with Ricky Jones and Hickson
contributing 25 of those points.
Jones sank 10 points, includ-
ing a pair of 3-pointers and four
freethrows, to help the Vikings
come from behind to tie the
game at 25-25 entering the half.
With 17 of its eventual 26
personal fouls already on the
board by halftime, Siuslaw’s
starting lineup came into the
second half playing heavy on

MID COAST LAKES
Holdover trout will be
available in most lakes.
Fishing for the various
warm water fish species
will slow as water tempera-
tures cool. There are
numerous lakes in the
Florence area that can pro-
vide good opportunity.
Siltcoos and Tahkenitch
lakes have closed to wild
coho. Other fishing has
been fair to slow. Casting
spinners near the weed
lines and trolling plugs or
spinners can be effective
on fish that recently
entered the lake.
