For Salgado, it’s a trip to the past on a stage that he was the first performer on at the FEC some 20 years ago. The Hank Shreve Band will open the evening concert at 9 p.m., followed by Salgado in an evening that will bring Salgado full-circle as the FEC celebrates its 20th anniversary. Salgado began his career leading The Nighthawks, a Eugene-based band before joining forces with Robert Cray, singing and playing harmonica with the band for six years — including singing on Cray’s debut album, released in 1980. Music Danny O’Keefe to headline Winter Music Festival This year’s Winter Music Festival will bring nine bands and headliner Danny O’Keefe, best known for his hit single “Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues.” Among the bands performing at the two-day music festival, Jan. 14 and 15, will be Cabin Fever Northwest, RJ Ballard, Ian McFeron, Halie and the Moon, Pretty Gritty, Midnight Darlins, Castletown, The Colin Trio, as well as Haley Johnsen, who will open for O’Keefe. The festival will take place Saturday, Jan. 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. COURTESY PHOTO In 1968, O’Keefe was a member of a Danny O’Keefe four-man heavy psychedelic rock band named Calliope. The group recorded one album, “Steamed,” for Buddah Records before disbanding. O’Keefe received national aclaim for “Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues” in September 1972, and reached number 9 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. It stayed on the Billboard chart for 14 weeks and sold a million copies. The gramophone record’s sales culmi- nated in a gold disc issued by the RIAA in June 1973. O’Keefe’s unique lyrical melodies earned him a reputation as an important songwriter of his genre. With Bob Dylan, O’Keefe co-wrote the environmental movement anthem “Well Well Well.” In concert with his music and through his organization, The Songbird Foundation, O’Keefe has been active in the environmental field, helping to develop public awareness of the effect that indiscriminate coffee-growing tech- niques have on the songbird population. O’Keefe’s songs have been covered by numerous musicians, including Jackson Browne, Elvis Presley, Glen Campbell, John Denver, Donny Hathaway, Jerry Lee Lewis, Judy Collins, Leon Russell, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Jimmy Buffett and Alison Krauss. O’Keefe will perform Saturday, Jan. 14, from 8:20 to 9:20 p.m. Tickets to this years Winter Music Festival are now available by visiting the FEC box office, calling 541-997-1994 or visit www.eventcenter.org. helping the hungry Tickets to be available for annual Florence Crab Crack on Dec. 1 Join 399 other crab lovers at the sixth-annual Florence Crab Crack on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. Enjoy great food and company while aiding the less fortunate in the area, with all proceeds benefitting Florence Food Share.
