SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2016 Oregon Hatchery Research seeks four new members ALSEA — Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) is seeking four new board members to represent the Columbia River gillnetters, Oregon Salmon Commission, the agricultural industry and Oregon Indian Tribes respectively on the Oregon Hatchery Research Center (OHRC) Board. The OSAA from 1B League with Ashland, Crater, Eagle Point, Klamath Union and Phoenix. South Umpqua would join the 3A Southern Cascade Honors from 1B blocker Elyssa Rose and junior libero Maci Wells. Senior outside hitter Brittany Long was named Second Team All-League, with junior outside hitter Emma Collins receiving successful candidates will serve four-year terms. The board is charged with advising the OHRC director on operational, budget and research priorities at the research center. The ODFW director will appoint the new members by the end of the year. The appli- cation is available on the ODFW website, dfw.state.or.us /fish/OHRC/recruitments.asp. OHRC is a cooperative research project between ODFW and OSU. The center’s mission is to develop an under- standing of the mechanisms that may create differences between hatchery and wild fish, and devise ways to reduce and manage the differences so that hatcheries can be used responsibly in the conservation and management of Oregon’s native fish. In football, Vikings senior defensive back Brogan Cornish and junior tight end Trent Reavis earned First Team All- League recognition from the Far West, along with Second Team All-League honors for Cornish as a wide receiver and Reavis as a punter. Senior lineman Marcos Reyna was named to Second Team All-League on offense. SILETZ RIVER: Steelhead, Chinook The Siletz River and bay is open for Chinook salmon. Fishing is slow. Fish are throughout the bay and river. Trolling herring in the lower bay is an effective technique. Eggs and bobber or drifting eggs can be productive in the upper bay and river as the season progresses. Consult the regulations for changes in deadline locations through the season. Steelhead fishing is slow. The majority of the summer steelhead are in the upper Siletz gorge. Casting spinners, drifting bait or using a bobber and jig can be effective. For cutthroat trout, casting small spinners, spoons or fly fishing streamers or dry flies can be very effective. YAQUINA RIVER : Chinook The Yaquina River and bay is open for Chinook salmon. Fishing is slow. Fish are throughout the bay and river to the angling deadlines. COOS COUNTY LAKES/PONDS: Trout Rainbow trout were stocked in Upper Empire, Bradley, Saunders, Powers, and Butterfield lakes last week. Due to extremely low water levels, Lower Empire Lake was not stocked. Trout that were destined for Lower Empire Lake were stocked into Upper Empire and Butterfield lakes. Currently fishing for trout has been decent in the deeper lakes like Eel Lake. Anglers are having success slowly trolling wed- ding rings. TENMILE BASIN: Trout, bass, yellow perch, coho Trout angling in the streams of the Tenmile Basin are now closed until May 22, 2017. Trout fishing in Tenmile Lakes is open all year. There is no wild coho fish- ery in Tenmile Lakes this fall. Largemouth bass fishing has been good over the past month. Anglers are catching bass near structure or on the deep end of the weed lines using spinner baits, jigs, or rubber worms. Fishing for yellow perch has picked up in Tenmile Lakes.
