Its next meeting will be Monday, Nov. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Early Childhood CARES/Head Start classroom at 2325 Oak St. Childcare and dinner will be provided. Parents must RSVP for childcare by Wednesday, Nov. 9. Come connect with other parents who are raising a child with special needs. The group will share in the joys and spe- cial challenges of raising a child with a diagnosis. While PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center recently launched a new Palliative Care program, its nonprofit hospice program has been serving hundreds of fami- lies within the 25-mile Florence region including the towns of Westlake, Mapleton, Deadwood and Swisshome. Hospice care is not a service often highlighted, but it is an important one. It empowers people facing a life-limiting ill- ness to live as fully as possible — all while surrounded and supported by family and loved ones. In Florence, Peace Harbor’s hospice program is an example of a community coming togeth- er to help diverse populations access quality end-of-life care. One example is Peace Harbor’s Flowers of Love pro- gram. Businesses like Florence in Bloom and Fred Meyer, and individuals like the Spencer family, donate flowers that are assembled and distributed to patient rooms — lifting spirits of both patients and families. Volunteers also come from as far as Mapleton and Yachats to help those in need. They make healing blankets and donate their time assisting with office support and patient com- fort care. Some work directly with patients, providing respite care for caregivers and families. “Our hospice program really is an example of ‘it takes a vil- lage,’” says Kathy Murphy, manager of Home Care Services at Peace Harbor. “We have an incredible team in Hospice Care, but the generos- ity of local community busi- nesses as well as volunteers is really what allows us to deliver exceptional care to our patients. “They really add to our patient’s quality of life. We’re grateful to be part of such a car- ing community.” Peace Harbor’s Hospice pro- gram will host a fundraiser and remembrance ceremony called Light Up A Life on Saturday, Dec. 10.
