Museum adds new board members
Oregon
Coast
Military
Museum (OCMM) announced
the appointment of two new
board members to fill vacancies.
“We had several very quali-
fied candidates to fill our two
openings this time. It is a great
challenge to have, and it was a
challenge to select only two,”
stated OCMM Board President
Wayne Sharpe.
John Murphey, a long-time
Florence resident, joins the
board, bringing several years of
community service with him.
Having served on numerous
boards and committees over the
years, he believes in giving back
to the community that has given
him so much. He and his wife
Jean are the owners of Coast
Insurance, and John has been
involved in that industry for the
past 17 years.
“I was introduced to the
Oregon Coast Military Museum
recently and was moved to be a
part of this wonderful organiza-
tion,” Murphey said. “ I look
forward to being a part of an
organization that honors our vet-
erans and preserves our history.”
J.P. Badel, a recent Florence
arrival who has family ties in the
community, is the second new
board member.
He and his wife Lynn are the
new owners of Bay Street
Family Tyes. They were drawn

to Florence because of the “fam-
ily feel” of the community.
Recently retired from law
enforcement, he has always been
active in the communities where
he has lived, serving on boards
of several professional and non-
profit organizations.
“My goal as a board member
for the Oregon Coast Military
Museum is to honor our veterans
and educate our community
about the sacrifices our veterans
have made in the fight for the
freedom and liberty we enjoy
today,” he said.
OCMM is located at 2145
Kingwood St. in Florence, and
open to the public Thursday
