Local active duty Marines, former Marines and FMF Corpsmen, along with their spouses or significant others, are invited to a birthday cele- bration to be held at the local Elk’s Lodge on Nov. 10. Tickets for the occasion can be obtained by calling 541- 991-3256 no later than Monday, Oct. 31. Tickets are $20 per person. This includes a no-host bar from 5 p.m. to the conclusion of the dinner party. Wells had 25 digs for the Viks. Siuslaw from 1B “We lost to them earlier this season and weren’t going to let it happen again,” York said. “This year, we really wanted first place and first seed. By the fourth set, I knew we were going to get it done.” A large factor in Siuslaw’s advantage came from the team’s ability to strike from just about anywhere on the court, as well as outstanding defense by junior libero Maci Wells, who had 25 digs, and senior Brittany Long with 19 digs and 19 assists. Run from 1B Jensen, and junior Jordan Northrop to round out the team’s top five at the district meet this Thursday. For the girls, Siuslaw senior Celie Mans was the first female running across the Brownies finish line for the fourth consecutive year. The run also included mid- dle schoolers, with eighth grader Brea Blankenship fin- ishing first overall in 12 min- utes, 38.3 seconds, followed closely by seventh grader Abby Watkins, also a senior, had 8 digs to go with 13 assists. Between setting from Long and Watkins, the Vikings were able to keep the Trojans off bal- ance as Siuslaw got additional scoring from freshman Mia Collins, junior Emma Collins and senior Claire Waggoner. “We really played together as a team this time against Douglas,” said Siuslaw coach Jon Hornung. “It was fun to sit back and watch them take over the match as a group, communi- cating and working together.” The win earned Siuslaw a bye in the first round of state playoff Rylee Colton (12:42.5). Sam Ulrich, a sixth grader, had the best time for the boys middle school division at 12:54.4. Thursday, the Vikings will compete at the Far West League district meet at Tugman State Park. The varsi- ty girls race is at 12:30 p.m., followed by the varsity boys race. Mapleton’s district meet will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at Lane Community College in Eugene. Varsity girls race at 12:30 p.m.; the boys race will follow.
