PTA to host Color-a-Thon 5K in November Get ready to get colorful as registration kicks off for the PTA’s first-ever Color-a-Thon 5K fundraiser here in Florence. Hosted by the Florence Community PTA, the Color-a- Thon 5K is a fundraising run/walk taking place Saturday, Nov. 5, beginning at 9 a.m.. The event will begin and end at Siuslaw Middle School. Participants will move through a 5K course while being engulfed in clouds of vibrant, non-toxic color, emerging looking as if they have just burst through a rain- bow. The event is open to both students and community mem- bers and will be immediately S HOREWOOD followed by the Fit Fair, also at Siuslaw Middle School. “Last year, one of our pri- mary sources of funding through an e-scrip program was discontinued,” said Tiffany Holdahl, president of the Florence Community PTA. In an effort to replace that funding, the Color-a-Thon 5K was born out of the hopes to raise money and encourage families to get out, get active and have a little fun while sup- porting the efforts of the PTA. “We really hope Siuslaw school families and communi- ty members at-large will come join us for what is sure to be one bright and colorful morn- ing,” said Holdahl. The Florence Community PTA supports all three schools in the Siuslaw district through funding and volunteers to sup- port programs, equipment and supplies that students and teachers otherwise may not have access to. Registration for the Color-a- Thon 5K is available with a $30 registration fee that includes an event T-shirt (or $25 without the T-shirt). Registration packets are available at the Siuslaw Elementary School office or Coastal Fitness. Registration and fundraising may also be completed online at www.shop.schoolathon.org /184253. TO HOST VETERANS FUNDRAISER Shorewood Senior Living, 1451 Spruce St., will be having a veterans fundraiser Friday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. Last year, the Shorewood’s event raised more than $4,000 thanks to the generous vendors and residents of Florence. All funds raised were donat- ed to American Legion Post 59 and Florence Area Veterans Relief Agency (FAVRA), to be used for our local veterans. This year, Shorewood would like to beat that amount. For every veteran that walks through the door, Shorewood and local sponsors will donate $25 to the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post #3232. More than 160 veterans attended last year’s event. The free event is open to the public and will include barbe- cue, refreshments, a 50/50 raf- fle, military vehicles and a spe- cial musical performance.
