Hutton finished the 5,000-meter dis- tance in 18 minutes, 50.4 seconds for the individual title. Though it was still 11 seconds behind Man’s PR time from last year, it was 23 seconds ahead of the Viking senior (19:13.6) this time around in a field of runners from 19 schools. Overall, the Lady Vikings were fifth in team scoring (167), with host Philomath taking the team title (109), followed by Sisters in second place (119), Catilin Gabel (120) in third and Scappoose in fourth place (131). Freshman Hannah Rannow had a personal best in 22:21.0 for 25th over- all, followed by fellow freshmen Anne Wartnik (22:49.2) for 33rd place, Chloe Madden (23:35.3) in 44th and senior Destine Tatum in 63rd with a time of 24:17.5. Freshman Bryn Clement was 67th and sixth for the Viks in 24:29.5) and senior Annmarie Precht finished in 26:09.2 for 94th place for her debut race. The program places trained volun- teers at 24 whale-watching sites along the Oregon coast during winter and spring watch weeks, when approxi- mately 20,000 gray whales migrate on their way to and from feeding areas off the Alaska coast and birthing areas near Baja, Mexico. Volunteers who complete the one- day training may select a whale-watch- ing site where they will be stationed to assist visitors in spotting gray whales Rainbow trout stocking is complete along the mid coast. Holdover trout will be available in most lakes through the summer. Fishing for the various warm water fish species is good this time of year. There are numerous lakes in the Florence area that can provide good opportu- nity.
