Oktoberfest’s lineup of entertainment All performances are on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St. Sam’s Polka Gems, or Sam Pecorilla, is a man whose musical experience goes beyond what most musicians can do in two lifetimes. Since 1947, he has been playing festivals, lodges and dance clubs. He started accordion les- sons at age 8, learning Scandinavian music and classical style. By age 15 he was working as a pro- fessional performer in Montana with a coun- try-and-western band. Sam recently released a CD that has 17 “best of” polkas and waltzes, including “Checkers- ville Polka,” “Hot Tamale,” “Somewhere My Love Waltz,” “Mozart’s Polka” and 13 more. It’s just a sampling of his versatile musical ability. signature events such as Mt. Angel, Alpenfest and St. Peters Oktoberfest, and Junction City, have delighted thousands of spectators and enthusiasts. The Tiroleans perform at 11:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Sam’s Polka Gems per- forms from 11 to 11:45 a.m. and 3 to 3:45 p.m The Tirolean Dancers started in the 1970s as a traditional German and Bavarian style dance performance group. Today, with new members, the Tiroleans continue to perform and bring the joy of traditional German dance to numerous Oktoberfests, Maifests, special and international events and cultural and folk festivals in both Oregon and Washington. Their appear- ances all over Oregon at The Alpine Echoes Band plays music for happy occasions, specializing in German, Scandinavian and folk dance music. They play for your dancing or listening pleasure. Alpine Echoes includes several teaching dances for audi- ence participation of all ages and authentic folk dance numbers. Their repertoire includes polkas, waltzes, swing, country western, fox trot, schottisches, hambos and specialty folk dance. Orchestration includes accordion, wood- winds, banjo, bass, fiddle, drums, Austrian cowbells and vocals.
