B OOKS • S EPT . 24, 2016
Local authors at this year’s book festival
Florence may be a small town, but it has
a fair share of writers of which many have
published books. And of these published
authors, 22 are participating in the
Florence Festival of Books, along with a
few Florence based book publishers.

two children’s books “Snowball: the
Nanny Goose of Sutton Lake” and “LuLu
. . . the dancing snail” and she has pub-
lished books for others. She is also co-
founder of the Florence Festival of Books.
• Burney Garelick is a retired writer for
the Siuslaw News and has authored four

operas, one novel “Big Dunes, Gold
Doubloons, Coffee Spoons & Loony
Tunes” and a collection of short stories.
• Dennis Brennan
has written
“Journeyman: A Tradesman’s Tale” about
summer houses in New England from the
point of view of a veteran of 40-years of
building.
• David Burke has been drawing and
writing poetry as well as short stories for
50 years. His two books are an attempt to
bring these two disciplines together as
one.
• Tom Cherones, previously an award-
winning TV director and producer, is best
known for directing the first five years of
the popular “Seinfeld” comedy series. He
has written “The Hardly Boys,” a parody

writer at Oregon Coast and Northwest
Travel magazines, has written four books

matic brain injury survivors since she was
a teenager and wanted to know what “I’m

through her poems in “The Morning
Porch: Poems and Reflections from a
Quiet Heart.” Her most recent book is
“Gramma’s Guided Tour of the World’s

Climbing Adventures of Jake Meissner”
takes the reader along on these adrenaline
filled adventures.
• Ned Hickson is a nationally syndicat-
