Sunday, Sept. 18 P IONEER M USEUM PICNIC Join the community for the annual Siuslaw Pioneer Museum Picnic to be held at the Elks RV Park on Mercer Lake Road. Everyone is invited to attend. The picnic begins at 11:30 a.m., with a potluck luncheon to follow at 12:30 p.m. The museum will provide barbecued pulled pork, chips, coffee, punch, plates and eating utensils. Bring a favorite side dish, salad or dessert to share with the group. Museum Board vice president Steve Skidmore will give a summary of the latest annual report following the luncheon. Tuesday, Sept. 20 H OOTMAN SPEAKS AT R HODY Siuslaw Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will meet at 6.30 p.m. for a program by Steve Hootman, intrepid explorer from the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden in Federal Way, Wash. Hootman collects seeds in areas above 6,000 feet in the Himalayas. The public is invited to come to the presentation at the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw, 3996 Highway 101 in Florence.
