10 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2016 Adventists improve lives through Better Living New Life Lutheran to host third annual ‘Roundup’ “I am very grateful to our community, which provides so many donations, as well as our volunteers who make it possi- ble to provide this needed serv- ice,” says David Ross, director for the Lois Davidson Better Living Center. Ross recently reported that from July 2015 through June 2016, the Better Living Center, at 85134 Highway 101, served 3,569 families, totalling 8,783 individuals. Free items distributed to patrons included 23,757 arti- cles of clothing, 1,002 pairs of shoes, 855 articles of bedding, 4,704 household items and 9,104 miscellaneous items. The center received 1,181 contributions from the public, usually in large boxes or bags. Volunteers contributed 2,513 hours in laundering, cleaning and sorting the contributed items, and in face-to-face con- sultation with patrons. The center, operated by the Florence Seventh-day Adventist Church, is open each Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., to receive and dis- tribute new and gently-used clothing, bedding, towels, kitchenware, personal items On Sunday, Sept. 11, Florence’s New Life Lutheran Church, 2100 Spruce St., will hold its third annual “Roundup Sunday,” to mark the begin- ning of the church’s program- ming year. As in the previous two years, all attending will be encouraged to dress in “cow- boy” or western attire, and informality will be the order of the day. In addition to regular church business, musical entertain- ment by Marty Adams and his country music group will be provided. “This informal get-together gives our members a chance to communicate their ideas for the coming year,” said pastor Lori Blake. “We also hope to welcome many new visitors from the community at large to this event.” COURTESY PHOTO The Better Living Center, 85134 Highway 101, is open Wednesdays. center, call 541-997-2137.
