6 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2016 Yachats Art Guild to host 9th annual Fall Show Classes begin for Siuslaw, YACHATS — The Yachats Arts Guild Fall Show Monday, continues through Sept. 5 in room 8 of the Yachats Commons, 441 Highway 101. The exhbition will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The guild will feature new member Olivia Stephens. It will have 28 framed art items in the exhibit and for sale, offering a variety of art including watercolor, oil, acrylic, colored pencil, pen and ink, wood turning and photography. Cards, prints and ceramic tiles of some of the original art are available. The Yachats Arts Guild began in 2007 with seven founding members and has grown to the present 25 mem- bers, all from the Central Oregon Coast. The guild has an ongoing display at the Yachats Public R OTARY Mapleton schools September means the end of summer for area students. Below are the start dates for the Mapleton and Siuslaw school districts. M APLETON All three schools of the Mapleton School District begin Tuesday, Sept. 6. S IUSLAW Siuslaw School District grades one to five at Siuslaw Elementary, grade six at Siuslaw Middle and grades nine to 12 at Siuslaw High School begin classes on Wednesday, Sept. 7. Siuslaw Middle School grades seven and eight begin Thursday, Sept. 8. Siuslaw kindergarten stu- dents begin Monday, Sept. 12. The Twilight after school program will begin Monday, Sept. 19. Humane Society seeks yard sale donations Oregon Coast Humane Society (OCHS) volunteers are collecting items for the upcoming annual Christmas Store, a major fundraiser for the animal shelter. OCHS is asking the com- munity to donate items that are unsold during the Community- Wide Garage Sale to the ani- mal shelter. Items such as warm shirts, jackets, sweaters, caps and mittens are always popular items at the Christmas Store, as well as Christmas décor, including wreaths and trees, tree ornaments, indoor and outdoor lights and dishes. Other popular items are games, books and toys in good condition, and can be dropped off to the OCHS Thrift Store, 1193 Bay St. in Old Town. All donations are appreciat- ed.
