has
announced that the middle
school cross country season
will begin soon.
“A fun-loving, friendly
group of boys and girls have
already committed to either
returning or being on the
team,”
said
Krause-
Campbell, “and we welcome
the addition of more.”
Siuslaw Middle School
cross country is open to all
sixth through eighth graders,
including home school stu-
dents. This running sport
competes mostly in state
parks in various locations,
with a focus on natural sur-
faces and trails.
“The goal of our team is to
make individual improve-
ments while mixing in some
fun,” Krause-Campbell said.
Practices are a mix of run-
ning form practice, core
strengthening, running games
and endurance training.
The season runs from late
August through late October.
Required practices will
begin Monday, Aug. 29, and
a schedule will be set soon.
Each student must have the
following completed at the
middle school to be able to
participate in those practices:
Sports physical (done with
a physician) and online regis-
tration.

O
n the surface, Ron Bresser’s chosen sport seems to
be in juxtaposition to his warm and welcoming
personality. On the mats as both a wrestler and
coach for more than 50 years, Bresser can dissect an oppo-
nent with precision and within seconds, nullifying a given
move with a twist, roll or lunge. His years of wrestling
among Canada’s elite, as well as his years as a coach at
Henley High School in Klamath Falls, Ore., have made
him a sought-out magi among wrestlers and coaches.

TO HONOR ITS LEGENDARY ATHLETES
Eight individuals and two teams,
spanning nearly 40 years of Siuslaw
athletics history, will be inducted into
this year’s Siuslaw Athletics Hall of
Fame on Friday.
This year’s group is the largest to
date, with athletes representing individ-
ual achievement in basketball, football,
wrestling, track and field and cross coun-
try — including a member of the very
first girls’ track team in 1965, Toni
Winthers-Stonelake.
In the team category, the first state
championship boys cross country team,
as well as the 1997 state championship
boys track team, will be honored.
On Aug. 19, the following athletes will
be inducted into Siuslaw’s hallowed
Athletics Hall of Fame:

Fame induction ceremony will be held at
Three Rivers Casino Resort, beginning at
5:30 p.m. on Aug. 19.
