‘Dangling Conversation’ features Shakespeare duos BANDON — Frolic with Shakespeare’s best-loved romantic duos in “Dangling Conversation,” a contem- porary cabaret of Shakespeare and song presented by the Bandon Playhouse. Shows are one weekend only, Aug. 5, 6 and 7 at the Sprague Community Theater, 1202 11th St. SW in Bandon. Four-hundred years after the Bard’s death, his classic girl-meets-boy story lines are still favorites for actors and audiences. Shakespeare’s couples woo with sweet words, then joust in jealous spats. “Dangling Conversation,” (a reference to a Simon and Garfunkel song), fea- tures selections from eight of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedic and tragic romances, such as “Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “Taming of the Shrew,” “Hamlet” and “Romeo and Juliet.” Scenes are embroidered with classical and folk music. The players are six of Bandon’s young adult performers: Tessa Fuller, Josiah Hay, Lachlan Miller, Autumn Moss- Strong, Darby Underdown and Max Underdown. These high school and col- lege students boast award-winning par- ticipation in speech, theater and music groups. They are recognized in the local per- formance scene and have traveled the COURTESY PHOTO Cast of “Dangling Conversation,” presented by Bandon Playhouse Salmon Barbecue tickets on sale Bay Area Kiwanis Club hosts 58th annual fundraiser Aug. 7 COOS BAY — Tickets are now on sale for the Bay Area Kiwanis Club’s 58th Wave Young Salmon Barbecue. The show is directed by Mike Dempsey, with Geneva Miller as cre- ative director. Crystal Landucci and Candace Kreitlow will accompany the performers on piano, guitar and harp. The production doubles as a workshop that engages the cast in all aspects of theater production, and students con- tribute to selection of roles and music, choreography and vocal music arrange- ments. “Dangling Conversation emerged, as the title suggests, from conversations between several people involved in local theater,” Miller said. “We were eager fror the opportunity to workshop music and dramatic literature with a cast of young adult performers ready to explore fun, but challenging repertoire. The con- temporary overtones in this caberet of Shakespeare and song reflect the creativ- ity each cast member brings to the ensemble.” Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10. Advance tickets are available at Bandon Mercantile Company, 535 Second St. SE. For will- call tickets, call 541-236-5105. Tickets also available at the door.
