The new vessel was deliv- ered to the port at the begin- ning of May. It will go into the water the week of July 5. It will stay in use through the fishing sea- son and come out of the water after Labor Day. The vessel is 24 feet long, 11.5 feet wide and has a 1,000 gallon holding capaci- ty. Two pilings were driven to hold the vessel in place. There are 25 of these boats in Oregon. The vessel is supplied by a grant from the Oregon State Marine Board. The naming contest is open to any person 18 years of age or older. To submit an entry, email or call the port with your suggested name, your name and your phone number. Entries need to be suitable for a public facility. There is no limit to the number of times a person may enter. Rude, graphic or otherwise inappropriate names will not be considered. Port staff and commission- ers may enter, but are ineligi- ble for the prize. Spouse’s names, even if appropriate, are not recom- mended. The winner will be picked and announced on July 4, by Port Commission President Ron Caputo. The winning entry will receive a $100 gift certificate to ICM restaurant. New officers are: Erica Westphal, Regent; Ruth Blattner, Vice Regent; Jo Hine, secretary; Merilee Mulvey, treasurer; Jacquie Beveridge, chaplain; Karen Childs, Registrar; Sharon Waite, histo- rian and Mary Gill, librarian. These new officers assumed the duties of their offices after the installation ceremony con- ducted by State Regent Cynthia Parnell from Gleneden Beach, Ore. Though this chapter is only eight years old, Daughters of the American Revolution is celebrating 125 years at this year’s Continental Congress in Washington, DC. The first chapter in Oregon was organized in Portland in 1896. Oregon Dunes chapter sup- ports the Oregon Coast Military Museum and facilitat- ed the grant for the Remembrance Garden.
