But as a catcher a n d cleanup hitter for t h e Vi k i n g s between 2011 and 2 0 1 4 , Ashlee Cole Cole was known throughout the Far West League for her ability to clear the fence. Now, as a sophomore catcher on the Northwest Christian University’s Beacons, Cole is continuing her big swing and, on April 22, hit a pair of home runs that brought home four RBIs in the game — breaking the school’s single-season RBI record with 37. See Longo named AD of the Year coach of the high school’s track and field team, Longo is well known within the 1A division for his dedi- cation to athletics. However, it was his commitment as the school’s Leadership adviser, metals and woodshop teacher, small engines and geometry teacher, and Electric Car Program adviser that brought his name up for a third time: For the OADA’s prestigious Leadership Award. Heading into last week’s four-day B Y N ED H ICKSON Siuslaw News When members of the Oregon Athletic Directors Association (OADA) sat down to decide who would receive the Athletic Director of the Year for 2016, Aaron Longo’s name came up. M . With the Far West League district championships a little more than two weeks away, the Viking track and field team is gathering steam in its bid for league titles. During Friday’s Central Coast Invitational hosted by Siuslaw, it was clear sophomore Trent Reavis and junior Destinie Tatum will be part those Vikings providing steam. Tatum won the 800-meter race with a personal best time of 25.16, as well as the high jump by meeting her previous best mark of 4 feet, 10 inches. Tatum also joined Kaeli Ramos, Morgan Bingham and Annmarie Precht to provide the final leg of the winning girls 4x400-meter relay team, which set a new field record with its time of 4:10.75 — the fastest time in the 4A this season. Reavis, who has dominated the throws this season, threw a personal best in the discus for a winning mark of 138 feet, 4 inches. He then went on to win the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 10.5 inches. The Vikings had several other out- standing performances during what was the final home meet of the season for Siuslaw. Precht, a junior, set a PR in the 200- meter race, winning in 26.69 for the 4A’s second-fastest time of the season. Ramos, a freshman, won the 400 meters with room to spare, clocking in at 1:03.55 for a personal record.
