Sheldon Meyer joins WLCF board of directors
It was fortunate for new
Western Lane Community
Foundation
(WLCF)
board member Sheldon
Meyer that his resume
contains a long list of
board-of-director experi-
ence, as there was no time
to waste with WLCF
Community Grants season
in full swing.
Starting Jan. 1, Meyer
acquired the WLCF board
seat vacated by long-time
board member Roger
McCorkle, who had dedi-
cated 12 years to the foun-
dation.
Meyer’s board experi-
ence is varied and exten-
sive; he served on Mental
Health Association of
Southwestern Oregon, Bay
Area Transportation District in
Coos Bay, South Western
Community College and he
is a past mayor and current
board
member
of
the
research, writing experi-
ence in counseling, psy-
chology,
gerontology,
adult education and com-
munications.
He received his bache-
lor of science degree from
the University of Utah and
his master’s degree and
PHD from Oregon State
University.
Meyer retired from
South Western Comm-
unity College as vice pres-
ident of administrative
services in 2008.
When asked what was
the draw to be on the
WLCF board, Meyer said,

When asked what he thought
lege and university teaching, of being involved in his first
WLCF annual Community
Grant Program, Meyer was
straightforward.
“The grant process and out-
come were very impressive. It
involved a lot of soul searching
and group effort to arrive at
what we as a group saw as the
best solutions to the many
requests,” he said.
WLCF has nine volunteer
board directors and a volunteer
executive director. Directors
can serve maximum of two
consecutive three-year terms.
Serving with Meyer is board
President Cindy Forsythe, Vice
President
Tom
Bassett,
Secretary
Pat
Stewart,
Treasurer Dee Osborne, as well
as Jim Grano, Ray Mans,
Nancy Walker and Lis Farm.
Executive director is Gayle
Waiss, who previously served
as a board director.
