G IVING B ACK — F LORENCE -A REA N ON -P ROFIT G UIDE 2016 - 3 Florence Food Share is an emergency food box pantry serving a 270 square mile area in Western Lane County. We distribute over 50,000 pounds of food every month to an average of 1800 individuals. 30% of those we serve are under the age of 18, and 28% are seniors on a fi xed income. Because of the large volume of food we distribute, we must constantly replenish our shelves. Our most needed items are: peanut butter, canned meat products (such as stew and chili), mac-n- cheese, sugar, fl our, coffee, and canned tomato products. Volunteers Making a Difference F lorence is home to dozens of organizations — and hundreds of individuals — that support the town and its citizens. Their accomplishments range from ensuring the welfare of children and their families, to beautifying the parks and beaches, to building a hospital, library and senior center, to protecting the planet. They make music, teach our children, feed the hungry, lift our spirits. Some of the service organizations and their volunteer corps have become traditions, institutions and major resources. Some work qui- etly “behind the lines,” perhaps touching just one life at a time; some stimulate, entertain and motivate with gala gatherings and fundraisers. All are making a difference. All deserve recognition and support. Please take a few minutes with the 2015 Giving Back, a Guide to Florence-Area Non-Profi ts, to get to know a few of the groups that are making Florence a healthy and diverse community, and consider how you might get involved. Perhaps you’ll fi nd an opportunity of a lifetime, whether to give or receive. The Siuslaw News extends a sincere thanks to these organizations, their leaders, and, especially, their volunteers. —Siuslaw News Staff Index of Non-Profi t Organizations in this Publication Florence Food Share is tremendously grateful for the ongoing support of this community. Without our dedicated volunteers, we couldn’t operate. In addition, because every dollar donated allows us to access and distribute 65 lbs. of food, every cash donation helps considerably. Thank you, Florence, for your ongoing support! 2190 Spruce Street, Florence 541-997-9110 Thank you!
