Enjoy an elegant evening at one of Folk Society to host Contra dancing COOS BAY — The Eugene Barnstormers will be back on stage for another exciting evening of Contra Dancing hosted by the South Coast Folk Society. On Saturday evening, April 2, The Barnstormers will play their unique blend of lively, old-timey music for three hours beginning at 7 p.m. The Barnstormers are a perennial favorite of the local dance communi- ty. Their infectious rhythms will make you feel like dancing all night. Join the fun at the Harding Learning Center located at 755 S. Seveth Street in Coos Bay. Doors open at 6:45 p.m., and les- sons begin at 7 p.m. Contra dancing is appropriate for singles, couples and families, and no experience is necessary. First-timers who arrive for the 7 p.m. lesson will receive a ticket for free admission to their next dance. The guest caller for the evening is Karen Olsen of Myrtle Point. She will teach basic steps and figures during the lesson, and introduce more advanced moves as the evening pro- gresses. After the lesson, Olsen will present a full evening of interesting dances. Her calling style creates a light-heart- ed, energizing space for all dancers. Olsen’s calls blend seamlessly with the music of the Barnstormers and make dancing joyful. Contra dancing is an invigorating new form of social dancing loved by dancers of all ages, so wear your dancing shoes and a big smile. The Folk Society hosts Contra Dances every first Saturday at the Harding Learning Center, and every third Saturday at the Greenacres Grange. Both venues offer a full evening of social dancing to great live music. These events are alcohol and fra- grance free. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Admission: General $7, students w/ID and seniors older than 60 cost $6; members $5, and supervised chil- dren under age 6 free.
